A Reminder About Password Security

This is an important reminder for customers with either PlayOnline accounts or Square Enix Accounts.

In the event that another company's online service experiences a data breach, use of the same name and password across multiple services could lead to an unknown third party gaining unauthorised access to your accounts.

Accordingly, we advise that you take extra precautions to protect your Square Enix Account. In order to maximise security, we would like to remind you of the following password management practices:

* Do not use the same password for multiple online services
* Do not use repeated strings of characters, phone numbers, birth dates, or other similar information in your password
* Change your password regularly
* Do not use programs that put you at risk of malware
* Do not open emails or files when you do not know who sent them
* Do not access suspicious websites

By using a Square Enix Security Token with your Square Enix Account, you can greatly decrease the likelihood that your account will be compromised. We strongly recommend that you begin using one if you are not already doing so.

See the below URL for more information about Security Tokens.

Customers with accounts for FINAL FANTASY XIV and FINAL FANTASY XI linked to the same Square Enix account will have access to both games restricted and receive an “Unauthorised connection to server detected” message when trying to access PlayOnline in the event that their FINAL FANTASY XIV login is restricted. Square Enix accounts that use security tokens, however, will never have their logins restricted.

Under this new system, once login has been restricted, an email notification will be sent to the primary email address registered to the Square Enix Account. This email will contain instructions on how to remove the login restriction. Players will be asked to reset their passwords and log in again.
