SQUARE ENIX strictly forbids activities that negatively affect players’ or third parties’ experiences related to FINAL FANTASY XIV, or that negatively affect any SQUARE ENIX service. Such activities violate the FINAL FANTASY XIV User Agreement
. SQUARE ENIX may penalise users who engage in prohibited activities in, or in connection with, FINAL FANTASY XIV or other SQUARE ENIX services in SQUARE ENIX’s sole discretion. A non-exhaustive list of penalties that SQUARE ENIX may issue is available in the Account Penalty Policy
SQUARE ENIX’s privacy policies may prevent SQUARE ENIX from disclosing information about disciplinary action SQUARE ENIX may have taken against users engaged in prohibited activities.
The use of inappropriate or offensive language, whether or not directed at another player, is considered harassment and is strictly prohibited. Using inappropriate language (including any play on words that could be deemed offensive) in a character name; Free Company name, Linkshell, Chocobo or Retainer name; Party Finder or Search Comment; or any other publicly displayed message also constitutes harassment. SQUARE ENIX evaluates all claims of harassment on a case-by-case basis. If SQUARE ENIX determines in its sole discretion that one or more players have engaged in harassment, SQUARE ENIX may issue account penalties to all players involved in the harassment.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of language that could constitute harassment:
- Language generally considered unacceptable in a public place.
- Language intended to harm, annoy, threaten, or harass a third party.
- Language promoting discrimination against any race, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability.
- Language promoting violence against any person, group of people, or property.
- Language intended to elicit a negative response or that could trigger negative debates or conflicts.
There may be other types of harassment that do not fit into any of the categories described above, such as when a player attempts to bypass anti-harassment mechanics like the blacklist or language filter features. SQUARE ENIX may determine that such conduct constitutes harassment, even if such conduct is not expressly prohibited herein.
Behaviour intended to prevent or hinder other players from fully enjoying the game is prohibited. While SQUARE ENIX encourages unique play styles, SQUARE ENIX may penalise players who hinder or diminish the quality of gameplay for others through inappropriate behaviour. Examples of inappropriate behaviour include, but are not limited to, spamming, gridlocking, and fraud:
Spamming is excessively repeating the same phrase or action, or otherwise generating an unusually large volume of communications. Spamming is disruptive to players and may prevent them from chatting, reading chat logs effectively, or playing the game.
Gridlocking is any action that prevents or hinders a player from performing an action.
Fraud is an act of deception intended to deprive a player of his or her full enjoyment of the game or a player’s property. Fraud occurs most often in agreements between players for trade, loot, or betting:
- Trade fraud: Fraud relating to the exchange of items or in-game services.
- Loot fraud: Fraud relating to loot distribution.
- Bet fraud: Fraud relating to the gambling of gil or other possessions on the outcomes of in-game events (Please note that gambling on the outcomes of events outside of the game, or the gambling of anything other than in-game gil or possessions, is strictly prohibited).
Activities that Negatively Affect Game Balance
Third-Party Programs or Tools
SQUARE ENIX strictly prohibits the use of third-party programs or tools – including programs and tools that permit automated or “absentee” play – in FINAL FANTASY XIV. Accordingly, the following activities are prohibited:
- Modifying, analysing, integrating, and/or reverse engineering game software or data.
- Creating, distributing, using, or promoting utilities that interact with the game.
- Exploiting SQUARE ENIX programming bugs or glitches.
- Automating gameplay processes.
During the course of an absentee play/automation investigation, SQUARE ENIX may request that players respond to or comply with certain instructions. Failure to do so may result in SQAURE ENIX taking disciplinary action against the account.
Real Money Trading (“RMT”)
RMT is the selling and buying of virtual assets for real-world money, property, or services. “Virtual assets” include, but are not limited to, the following:
- In-game currency (gil)
- In-game services
- In-game items or gift codes
- In-game property
SQUARE ENIX has a zero-tolerance policy for third-party tools and RMT. Items and gil obtained through third-party tools or RMT can affect the game’s economic stability and disrupt gameplay balance. Moreover, some third-party programs contain viruses and spyware that can harm players; this can lead to unauthorised disclosure of users’ personal data, character deletion, identity theft, and other unfortunate circumstances.
Sharing or Disclosing Account Information
SQUARE ENIX strictly prohibits the sharing, lending, or disclosing of account or login information (such as your Square Enix ID and password). Sharing, lending, or disclosing your account information may result in the user unexpectedly losing his or her accounts to third parties. SQUARE ENIX may disable shared, lent, disclosed, or compromised accounts.
Users may not impersonate or fraudulently claim to be other players, SQUARE ENIX employees, or any third parties. In addition, users may not fraudulently claim affiliation with FINAL FANTASY, SQUARE ENIX, a SQUARE ENIX employee, or any other organisation.
