[PC] What is Steam and why is it being installed on my computer?

Many of our new titles require the use of Steam. Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multi-player and communications platform developed by the Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Steam also has community features, automated game updates, and in-game voice and chat functionality.
In order to register and play the game, you need to follow a few simple steps:

1-You will need to register for a free account through steam (or login to your existing account).
2- You need to click "Add a Game" within your Steam client and register the STEAM REGISTRATION CODE that came with your game.
3- Be sure to allow the game to install and fully update before playing (this time will vary pending your computers processing speed and connection speed to the internet).

Please keep the following in mind regarding your experience with Steam:

It is highly advised to never create another Steam account. If you are having trouble logging into your existing Steam account, please utilise Steam's account recovery system. Square Enix will not have control over your Steam account in anyway. You will have multiple ways to recover an account including using your User name, Email or Product Key you entered.

Steam DOES require the internet for authentication of titles and updates, however it can be set to OFFLINE mode if you plan on gaming in an environment that does not have a connection to the internet. Please be sure to allow your game to fully update before selecting this mode.
